New Frontiers: Social Commerce

Categories:

Our meeting with a new e-commerce client today provided us with a new exciting challenge… and we’re pretty sure we have a new exciting solution.

The challenges...

  • The client’s current website has been built in Big Cartel, and while it looks “OK” it isn’t working as well as it could or should.

  • The site has had little traffic in last 12 months.

  • It doesn't look great (is terrible) on mobiles / tablets.

  • Adding to the mobile / tablet problem, a little research showed that earlier social media campaigns have all targeted mobiles or tablets! OUCH! (Is that the sound of money going down the drain I hear?)

  • Little or confusing social media integration within the site.

  • Low conversions from what little traffic there is.

So… we sent the scouts out to investigate a new frontier called Social Commerce. A future with clean, simple integration between web and social, where likers become customers, and customers become likers (and sharers).

Sounds kinda cool huh? Sure, the talk of the future may be more utopian than the reality, but we’re willing to find out if it lives up to the hype. We’re calling this one Project i, and over the next few weeks we’re going to stretch it, push it, pressurise it, (hell, we’ll even let the dog chew it), and see what it does. We’ll keep you posted.

Have you seen social commerce in action recently? Hit us with the brands you follow that are doing it really well… or, really badly.
